2.28 Loose Ends

Kaira eagerly escapes the house. Her best friend Janel's family has invited her to join them for a dinner at the Bistro to celebrate her brother's acceptance into the University of Simliness. Finally, something to do!

"Let me know if you'll sleep over at Janel's! If not, be back her by 11!" Dot calls out after Kaira.

"Yeah, sure, byeeee!" Kaira is inside of Janel's parents' minivan in a flash.

Santos waves from the picnic table. "See you!"

Dot gets to work cleaning up around the property. It's the weekend and she hasn't thrown a party in a very long time!

She cheers as her bonfire takes light despite the rain. It should be a fun night!

Her boyfriend Erich is in attendance with good quality Shwarma.

Dot shares a dance with him.

"Trying to butter me up with home-cooked food?" she asks teasingly.

"I'll have you know that Shwarma is my signature dish," Erich teases back.

"I'm sure it'll taste fantastic!"

Jade Greenwood-Castor looks happily at the couple. She remembers when she and her husband were both young and in love...how the time flies!

Carly, one of Kaira's classmates, frowns. "Ew, get a room!" she complains, not tearing her eyes away from the mirror. She wants to look good but these lovey-dovey old people are cramping her style!

They don't pay attention to her.

Meanwhile, Tatum mingles with guests...

"Oops!"

...while Kaira manages to light the dining table on fire. She knew that hot and sour soup was spicy, but not that hot!

While the adrenaline surge is thrilling, Kaira wisely realizes that she does not want to die. That still doesn't stop her from being disappointed when she puts the fire out, and then confused why she's disappointed. That's the daredevil trait, for ya.

Phew. Disaster averted.

Hopefully. Maybe nobody'll notice...

Tatum and Dot for now are ignorant of Kaira's little adventure. Tatum is dancing with Hasan Lumiere, a freshman.

The two get along decently, though Tatum can tell she's boring him when she talks about what she'll do after graduation. Tatum has already finished all of her classes while Hasan has just started high school. The future is still an abstract, invisible concept for him and he doesn't feel like thinking about it.

She sighs. "Want to take funny pictures in our photobooth?"

That's more like it!

Unfortunately, the two are uncreative with their poses. Still, Tatum hangs up the picture on her bedroom wall. Unlike Kaira, whose phone is filled with selfies of her with Janel and some of their other classmates, Tatum doesn't have pictures with any friends anywhere

Though her classes are done, Tatum still has things to sort out at school, most pressingly what to do with the mermaid sculpture she and Lester made. The gallery gave it back to the school after the exhibition was over and Mr. Potts wants them to put it somewhere else so other students can use the sculpting station. She agreed to help move it to the junkyard. It's only made out of clay and will be relatively easy to dispose of.

Tatum freezes in her trackes when she sees Jenelle. They haven't spoken since the fight between her and Kaira. Elias has hardly said two words to Tatum since their conversation at the gallery... and Lester never comes within two feet of her anymore. Her last few months of high school have been lonely, but bearable. She's not sure what Jenelle could want with her now...

"Hey, Tatum. I wanna talk to you," Jenelle says bluntly.

"Er, sure..."

"Look... I'm uh...man, I'm bad at this," Jenelle takes a deep breath, "...I'm sorry. For that, uh, stuff before."

"Stuff?" Tatum can't keep the annoyance out of her voice.

"Hey! I'm trying!" Jenelle snaps. She sighs, then starts again. "I broke up with Elias. He was too clingy anyways. And talked about you all the freaking time, it was so annoying!"

"Gee, thanks..."

Jenelle facepalms. Why does everything she says come out wrong? All she wants to do is say she's sorry and leave it at that!

"What I meant to say is... I shouldn't have said all of those things to you. I was mad at the wrong person, alright?"

Tatum nods, eager for this strange conversation to be over. "Thanks, for apologising... uh, sorry to hear about you and Elias..."

Jenelle frowns. "Nothing to be sorry about. He... was too insecure, y'know? And we were always getting into stupid arguments...and I said some stupid things to him and...agh!" she exclaims with frustration, "It was too complicated! So it's good that it's over!" the sentence comes out forcefully, making Tatum jump a little.

Tatum meets Jenelle's eyes. "Still...thanks for talking to me about it."

"Don't mention it...." silence hangs between the two girls for an uncomfortably long moment.

"I should go inside and move my sculpture..."

Jenelle waves her off, looking to the side. "Yeah, whatever. Move your weird statue."

Tatum rolls her eyes, but takes the opportunity to end this awkward exchange.

There, that wasn't too bad, was it? Jenelle tries to calm her racing heart and sweaty palms. I didn't sound too weird, right?

She shakes her head vigorously. Enough of this embarrassing stuff! She checks her phone. If she hurries, she shouldn't be late to Simlish class.

AN: Tatum ages up next chapter!

Poor Kaira was a victim of a graphical glitch I sometimes have where the "fire breathing" animation from eating spicy food actually catches something on fire! Good thing she put it out quickly and that table was cheap, anyways...

I had a look at Erich's traits again, he is not actually a natural born cook! He is;

-Hot-headed
-Animal lover
-Eco-Friendly
-Excitable
-Lucky

I actually intended to set Dot up with his brother, Solomon, who we have seen before, as he had the charismatic and nurturing traits which Dot also has, but then he got into a long relationship with another sim, had kids with her, and got married! Still, she and Erich have a high relationship value in game and I like him so he stays!

Jenelle and Elias really did break up without my intervention, though a bit later in the actual game than shown here.
